Self Reflection

Shelter-in-Place

Our children are grieving.

This past week was very difficult for my daughters (ages 8 and 10) because they didn’t get to perform in their school play. They had been practicing for months and the week before the big show, everything in their lives was canceled. They were devastated. Just heartbroken. And even though they seemed to understand (at a child’s level) the need to shelter in place, it still didn’t take away the disappointment or the feelings of loss.

Their wise and young director sent the cast a message this week which was perfect. She got emotional. She shared her feelings. She gave voice to the pain my girls were experiencing. We watched it several times.

Please let your children grieve.

They are experiencing a variety of losses right now – , therapies, teachers, classmates, routines, activities, school, friends, sports, social, schedule, events, normalcy, etc.

These things can feel big and devastating.

Let them feel sad about them.

Let them act out about them.

Let them grieve their losses.

❤️❤️❤️

  1. Thank you for your wonderful insight. Yes, we are all feeling so many losses. My children are adults, but they are feeling losses also…. I needed the reminder to grieve.
